The name Kanvas comes from the word “canvas” which is material in which a painting is done. This Kansas City rapper does just that; paints a picture on the minds of the people that listens to him. Born Demarkis Dobbins to a single mother in Minneapolis, MN, Kanvas got his education on the streets of Kansas City, MO where he was reared. As a child, he had dreams of playing professional basketball, and was one of the city’s top point guards playing for Olathe North High School in Olathe, KS. Unfortunately, his dreams were derailed when circumstances and events led Kanvas to do a three year stint in state prison.

After being released, Kanvas put the basketball to the side and picked up the microphone. He was determined to transfer all the energy he put into the streets into making good music that the people can relate to. He is indeed a poetic speaker. Kanvas has a laser like focus and a strong determination that will cause him to go through a brick wall before he lets any obstacle get into his path. The consummate family man, Kanvas cites his mother, his sisters, and his extended family as his motivation.

Currently Kanvas has an EP done with the first single being “City of Hustle".
